Development of VR simulator for watch using 3D interactive display – Started operation at Seiko Museum –

Pocket

Kadinche Compnay Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Soko Aoki) has developed a virtual reality (VR) simulator for watches using a 3D interactive display with the Seiko Museum (Location: Sumida Ward, Tokyo).

Seiko is a wristwatch manufacturing company which sells the highest standard wristwatch in the world. Among them, Grand Seiko is the most exclusive lineup, the internal structure movement is highly accurate and complicated. I used illustrations and moving images to explain the structure and behavior of the movement so far, but it was difficult to describe in detail because the three-dimensional structure moves with time. We developed a 3D clock simulator as a system for experiencing complicated movements three-dimensionally and interactively, and to understand more easily.

The 3D clock simulator uses zSpace 200, it is a 3D interactive display developed and sold by zSpace, USA. And the people who are experienced, they operate a three-dimensional model of a clock using a pen type device called a stylus. You can stereoscopically see how the mechanical, quartz and spring drive, which are three movements works which is developed by Seiko. By using the stylus, you can virtually disassemble and integrate the movement. In Kadinche, we developed this simulator with Seiko Museum. This simulator will be open to the public on 10th August 2016 at the Seiko Museum (http://museum.seiko.co.jp/).
